We address and do our best to teach current events and even address controversy in our schools. Of course the scope of the teaching and depth of the teaching depends a great deal upon the age and maturity of the student and the teacher....and the teacher? Yes ... and the teacher. We must expect more depth of subject matter from our teachers and a very high level of maturity.

Many teachers cannot teach controversy in our schools due to their own personal academic and political foibles....yet then there are the great stars in the teaching field that make us proud to call ourselves teachers.

How do we teach the fact that the Berkeley City Council has asked the United States Marines to leave THEIR city and that they are not wanted in THEIR city. How do we address the fact that the Berkeley City Council has become such a defiant part of our United States government.

First of all, the US Marines are under the purview of federal government. The city council represents a far left group that does not seem to care that our nation is at war and the lives of our troops and morale of our troops are constantly being undermined by the enemy. What category does this put the Berkeley City Council? You don't have to be a genius to realize that their action was designed to lower the morale of our troops while at war. Shame on you...

Was this intentional? Of course it was intentional. Berekely has been well know not for liberal thinking but for "far left leanings". The University is one of the most liberal Univerities in the country, yet...they are not part of governmemt whereas the city council is part of government.
Fortunately they do not represent the United States Government.

All federal money should be withdrawn from the City immediately...and the President of the United States and Congress must adddress this issue to the people on Television. Now this is one side of the subject that teachers can address....the other side of the issue will be forthcoming: The City of Berkeley came under so much heat from all around the United States that a half hearted apology was given to the marines by the City Council. This is an example of Governing Board overstepping their authority. It is quite common with public school boards....thus the tremendous turnover in Superintendents.
